Fall Recap

So MKs have been very well suited to early fall activities here in St Louis for both me and my boy, Jack.  We were both mesmerized by the hundreds of hot air balloons at Great Forest Park Balloon Race, and even got to help out with packing a few away after some surprisingly hard landings.  We also enjoyed absolutely gorgeous weather at the Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Gardens, where Jack actually got compliments from two different women on his pants.

Nonetheless, no matter how much we may feel like we are in the mountains when outside in our MKs, our urban locale begins to wear us down after awhile…so this past weekend we took Jack on his first camping trip deep down in the south Missouri Ozarks.  He enjoyed getting his pants nice and muddy in the St Francis river helping our dog attempt (unsuccessfully) to round up a few trout and generally had the time of his life.  Thanks once again for making such great products!  When we make the big move in a bit over a year from St Louis to our new (and hopefully permanent) home in the Shenandoah Valley of VA, we will certainly but them to even more frequent use.

Raptor Banding in Cape May, NJ

Liz Stout | MK Ambassador

I traveled to Cape May, NJ for a few days to help with the Cape May Raptor Banding Project there that has been going on since 1968. Can you believe they’ve banded over 100,000 raptors?! I spent my time banding 35 over the 3 and a half days I spent there (Coopers & Sharp-shinned hawks, a Peregrine, Kestrels, and Merlins).

I woke up early on the morning of Saturday the 1st of October, to buckets of rain coming out of the sky….ugh…not good, I was thinking as I dozed with small hopes of the rain stopping in time for the 2nd Annual Newport SUP CUP.

Hocking Hills

Just a couple weeks ago I took a day trip down to Hocking Hills in Southern Ohio. Around Ohio this are is known for it’s beautiful cliffs and scenic wilderness. As fall sets in, the sun sits low in the sky, and the leaves begin to change, and people head out to enjoy these last days before Winter. It was a little to crowded to take shots of the leaves and hills the way I would have liked to, but the light through the trees was beautiful and I was reminded of the late Fall hikes I spent down there with my parents when I was a boy.

If you’re in Ohio, this is one of the places you must take time to explore. With multiple trail areas from the climbers area at Rock House to the main event which brings in families, Old Mans Cave (which is where we spent the afternoon).
