Whitewater Rafting in Idaho

Trevor Fulton | MK Ambassador

After the record snowfalls in Idaho and the cold wet spring, the rivers have been running long and strong. In mid-July I put on the wild section of the Main Salmon river with the flows still at 5 feet. For those that aren’t familiar, the flow on the Corn Creek ramp should be around 2.5 feet at that time. The added highlight on this years trip was the new rapid at Black Creek. During the early spring a side canyon blew out and damned up the river in the Black Canyon. This caused the iconic Salmon Falls to get flooded by the pool above the new rapid. With the new rapid being the steepest drop on the river, it was the talk of all the boaters on the river. The rapid itself was a big glassy wave into some monster laterals, fun and aesthetic for sure. The picture is me after running the new drop on our second day. The rest of the trip was fun big water Idaho boating. It’s been a great year for whitewater in the state of Idaho, thanks MK for all the support.

Boise Whitewater Festival off to a Rapid Start

Despite some major changes due to the historically high water, the Boise Whitewater Festival had a great inaugural event. Participants came from Idaho, Utah, Washington and Colorado to paddle some of the best whitewater in the world!

Boise Whitewater Festival

Sunday’s races took place on the 7 mile, class III section of the Main Payette. There was a Stand Up Paddleboard race as well as a seven mile, downriver race. After the competition, everyone joined together to enjoy live music performed by Jonathon Warren and the Billy Goats and wonderful microbrews provided by Payette Brewery.

ERSLA & Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College

Rodney McDonald | MK Ambassador

ERSLA has been honored to host Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Nicaragua. The visiting group of development and nursing students are studying development and health issues in rural areas. ERSLA took the students to visit a maternity home near Somoto where they learned about the benefits of the Moringa tree and how it improves the lives of women with newborn babies. We had the opportunity to plant 12 trees in the yard at the home. Mountain Khakis pulled through to look crisp and clean during the meeting, but also be tough enough to handle the dirt while teaching how to plant the trees.
