Hell Yeah Tour! On the Road

Dixie Pickers Clearly has the Hell Yeah! Vibe

It’s not often I come across a store that offers an experience as much as it offers product. The norm is to walk into a store with a clear expectation of what you’re looking for and where to find it. Most of the time, that’s all I really want: to get in, do my shopping, and get to the next part of my day. But every once in awhile, I walk into a store and find an unexpected experience. Dixie Pickers is as much a collector’s haven as an outdoor shop; a lesson in history in which pieces cared for and preserved.

Damon and Dawn are two of the most interesting and dedicated individuals we’ve met on the tour. A lifelong collector and curator of classic American mementos, Damon has put together a collection of vintage gas pumps, football helmets, keepsakes and trophies over his lifetime. Five years ago, he and his wife Dawn decided to turn his hobby into a business. At first, the shop was a place to display and sell his collection. They then decided to add a T-shirt line. Then came socks, then pants, and before either of them knew it, they had created a completely original outdoor shop catering to the individuals that enjoy pausing, taking in the atmosphere, and breathing in the moment. The creativity of the staff and store is representative of what Mountain Khakis means to me: authenticity, originality, appreciation for quality, and a walk that goes with the talk. Maybe these folks didn’t originally intend to have an outdoor shop, but I would argue that they knew exactly what they were doing as their collector’s shop evolved into the outdoor mausoleum it has become in the last five years.

Needless to say, when the Hell Yeah! Tour joined Dixie Pickers for the evening, we had our best night yet. Here’s to Jeff and Jared, GW and Cindy, Alex and Danica, Rage, Nick and so many more. Thank you, Dixie Pickers, for hosting us and sharing your incredible home and community and for helping us tear down the rig just in time to escape the rain! We are energized and looking forward to the next leg of our adventure. See you down the road!
