The University of Washington’s student Kayak Club put on a two day free event for the public and university body in Seattle April 14th and 15th. The first day was held on the Skykomish River featuring long and short boat races in both advanced and intermediate, men and women’s divisions down class III/IV rapids. Boaters showed up ready to race at the Outdoor Adventure Center in Index, Washington. Spectators were able to observe from the bank and drove to different check points along the course to watch. Thanks to Mt. Khakis sponsorship, Darren Albright and Ellie Wheat, the 2012 winners of the Advanced play boat divisions, were each awarded $150 gift certificates to Mountain Khakis stores.
The second day, hosted at the University of Washington, featured a sea kayak race, a self-rescue competition, as well as a kayak polo tournament for flat water enjoyment. The two day event allowed white water and sea kayakers the opportunities for challenge, enjoyment and community to connect and play in this dynamic water sport.
