GBA Tackles Doublehead Ski Trail in Jackson, NH

The smell of cider donuts and craft brewed coffee permeated through the cool morning air.  The mood was strong – there was work to do.  Fifty volunteers and United States Forest Service workers gathered in a small wooded area at the Doublehead Ski Trail in Jackson, New Hamsphire.

The site was the location of a future parking lot for backcountry skiing.  The goal at hand was to construct a new half-mile ski trail to the new lot and have it ready for this winter.  This crew was up for the task!

Over two days and 65 volunteers later, including a Jorts party at night (that’s denim jean shorts if you aren’t in the know), the Granite Backcountry Alliance had organized another great work weekend celebrating these volunteers and their handiwork.  The job was completed early Sunday afternoon (including a full upper trail trimming) and everyone was thrilled with the final product.  Now we just need some snow to test it out!

As for the jorts party held at Black Mountain, it was what you thought it would be. AWESOME!  Over 100 volunteers, family, friends, locals and businesses came out to celebrate skiing in the summer mountainside at Lostbo Pub.  Vendors on hand included local magazines, land trusts, trail organizations, ski companies and homemade craft proprietors.  Live music was performed by Junco which blasted funky and jazzy tunes into the sunset.  Businesses from the town of Jackson and surrounding communities truly stepped up and contributed toward breakfast, lunch and dinner for the volunteers, making life in the mountains that much better.

It’s why we live here. The mountains.

Thank you to Mountain Khakis for supporting a better life in the mountains and enriching our community with more recreational opportunities.

Hell Yeah!
