Buddy Bass Tournament for Arkansas Children’s Hospital

As the weather begins to warm in Arkansas, Beaver Lake becomes a bass fishing tournament hot spot.  One of the area annual bass fishing tournaments is hosted by Fayetteville Auto Park and helps raise money for Arkansas Children’s Northwest.  Arkansas Children’s Northwest is the newest addition to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital network and will bring pediatric care to more than 200,000 children that live in Northwest Arkansas and surrounding areas.

The tournament has been able to provide thousands of dollars over the last three years to help the tireless efforts of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. This year’s tournament brought in anglers from all over the Northwest Arkansas area and some from neighboring states.  With fishing comes early wake up calls and I pulled up to the ramp around 5am.  Luckily, I had my sidekick Maggie who is a German shepherd to keep me company.  Surprisingly there were not many boats ready to launch when I was setting up my table, but it didn’t take long and boats were lined up as far as the eye could see.

The tournament officially started at 7am and continued until 3pm for the weigh in.  There was a five fish limit and the winning combined weight was 19.34lbs.  In all a total of around 62 boats registered for the tournament but due to heavy rain storms, many boats did not make it to the weigh in.  While there was bad weather a fun time was had by all and some stuck out the rain until the final boat was back for weigh in.  One thing is definitely for sure, a day on the lake beats any day at work.  It was awesome to be a part of something I love while in turn helping out a place that helps others.  A big shout out to Mountain Khakis for sending support to an event focused on a great cause.
