Another Successful Women’s Green River Takeover

Last month 87 ladies came together at the Green River in Western North Carolina to take part in the fourth annual Women’s Green River Takeover.  The day is all about bringing together the women’s kayaking community to make new friends, reconnect with old ones, and shine together on the river.

We started off the day with early morning shuttle rides by some of the best men in the sport of kayaking acting as our “shuttle bunnies,” rabbit ears and all. After a quick meeting at the put-in, we split into smaller groups and started making our way down the class 2-3 Upper Green section of the river. All the ladies styled the rapids and there were no shortages of smiles out there. We enjoyed packed lunches and a big group photo on the river before half of the group hiked out while 43 ladies continued down to the class 4-5 Narrows section of the Green. The Narrows is serious paddling for advanced kayakers only so to be out there with 42 other ladies all together is a feeling that can’t quite be put into words. It was especially fun to see the look on some of the male kayakers out there as they watched us all boof our way past them, never having seen so many expert lady kayakers in one place at the same time

After everyone was off the river, we all came together to socialize over cold beverages and host the event’s raffle fundraiser, which raises money for the Shannon Christy Memorial Fund. This year we raised a total of $3,250 which will go directly towards the fund’s chosen causes for 2017. You can read more about those causes on the fund’s FB Page.

Thanks to Mountain Khakis and all of the event sponsors for their support of this event! Already looking forward the 2018 Green River Takeover!
