Recap: 2011 Best in the West

This year Best in the West was hosted by Zoo Town Surfers at Brennan’s Wave, in downtown Missoula.  Despite 50 MPH wind gusts and high water, we still made it happen.  It’s a BIW tradition to have custom belt buckles for the Men’s and Women’s winners so the athletes always come out to fight for these buckles.

Another great part about BIW is that it’s a great community event.  We are currently raising money and awareness to build a new wave in Missoula, just downstream of Brennan’s Wave, called The Max Wave.  It’s a river enhancement project  that will benefit the whole community of Missoula.  I serve on the Max Wave committee and use BIW as a platform for fundraising.   For more information about the Max Wave go to:  themaxmissoula.org

I want to thank Mountain Khakis for supporting our kayaking community and making BIW an awesome event.

RECAP: Johns Hopkins University Bouldering Competition

1 This past Sunday, April 24th, Johns Hopkins held their Spring Bouldering Competition. Although it was not as filled out as our Climbing Competition earlier this fall, it did allow for a more relaxed and fun atmosphere. That being said, our bouldering cave still was filled to the brim with spectators and competitors.
