Richard Kinney’s Race Recap

As race day dawned on Saturday morning, a call was received from Clayhill Motorsports stating “Racing activities for the Hobby Stock class have been officially cancelled for the weekend”. With this information in hand Richard Kinney gathered his team and after deliberation decided to go south to Corinth, MS on Saturday night and participate in their weekly racing show. Richard stated “This was a much unexpected change for us and our fans”.

Richard Kinney’s record at Corinth Speedway has been shy from impressive with only one start which came in 2010 and ended in a 14th place finish after being involved in an early race wreck.  Kinney commented on his statistic saying “Any finish would be better than my last visit to Corinth Speedway”.

Riding the Route I Mapped

GreatDivide Back in the 1990s, I helped conceive the idea for Adventure Cycling Association’s Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. I then spent the snowless months of 1995-97 researching the route, from Port of Roosville, Montana/British Columbia, to Antelope Wells, New Mexico/Chihuahua … mostly in a bright-red Jeep Cherokee.

Now, 15 years later, I’m finally going to get chance to bicycle the Great Divide myself … aboard a fat-tire, front-shocked, drop-bar Salsa Fargo. I plan to pedal the northern half of the route this summer (Roosville to Steamboat Springs) and the southern half next summer. I’m going to take it pretty leisurely, and do a lot of fly fishing along the way.

Climbing for Golden Week

Eddie Gianelloni
Golden week has been the most widely celebrated holiday in Japan thus far. I have never seen so many people outside. I do not fully understand what the holiday is for, but it has something to do with the emperor.

Anyway, for a break from the city Gavin and I joined Jack and his wife for some bouldering at Mizugaki. We met up at the new area and decided to try a few new potential problems. Jack also wanted to send his V5/6 that we finished cleaning last week.

Montana Winter Recap (Yes, It’s Still Snowing)

Hebgen Winter started out great this year in Southwest Montana. November 8th it started snowing and by the end of the month we had three to four feet on the ground. Like most seasons in Montana, winter seemed to turn on like a switch. Our snowpack stayed mostly stable for the season as well which made for some great backcountry skiing and riding conditions all over the mountains.

I was able to spend a lot of time in nearby Hyalite Canyon ferreting out new lines from the steep bowls and trees hidden within its depths, and mostly stuck close to home as there was no need to ski anywhere else with such amazing conditions here.
