Summer brings all manners of fatherhood adventures. Being married to a teacher gives our family an immense amount of free time during the summer. My wife the consumate planner quickly filled the summer schedule with plans. Not to be out done I had to be sure to get my own events into the mix.
It’s another beautiful day in Crested Butte. Not only because the sky is blue and the temperatures are just right but also because today is another day that Crested Buttians have the opportunity to give back to their community. Today is the 2012 Mt. Crested Butte Summit Hike to benefit Living Journeys, which raises money to provide support, education and awareness to those living with cancer. I have done the Summit Hike a few times in the past years, and it’s always been important to me, but today it’s especially important.
Back to School time is among us. Families crowd the lanes at Wal-Mart while the the kiddo’s are trying desperately to decide which superhero will grace the cover of their notebooks. I was always a Superman fan myself. Although that day has passed for me (or has it?) I will be part of the hordes returning to school in a week and with it being almost 8 months since my footsteps have echoed the halls of higher learning, I must admit to be slightly intimidated. Add my 8 month vacation to the fact that I’ll be moving tomorrow,to a new town and new school filled with unfamiliar hallways and faces, slightly intimidated may not quite describe it.
MK Ambassadors Sean Busby and Mollie Busby run Riding On Insulin, skiing and snowboard camps for kids and teens with diabetes. During Beech Mountain Resort’s two year run hosting the US Gravity National Championships, the staff has been working in parallel to bring an open bike park back to the state of North Carolina. This past weekend the resort would bring that plan into reality opening up Saturday August 18 to anyone that wanted to ride DH or access the XC trails of the Emerald Outback. The weekend would then be topped off on Sunday with Race 2 of 3 for 2012.
